At Scents By Sara, sustainability is an ongoing responsibility woven into how each piece is made.
From materials to production and packaging, every decision is approached with social and environmental responsibility. Ingredients and materials are selected to meet our standards for quality, safety, and performance.
Here, luxury is not defined by excess or volume, but by consideration — for the materials we work with, the people involved in bringing each piece to life, and the environments in which our pieces exist.
We approach sustainability as a continuous practice at every stage of creation — from how each piece is made to how much we produce and what remains once the ritual has ended.
Today, our efforts focus on three key areas: ingredients, production, and packaging.
THE RITUAL BEGINS BEFORE THE CANDLE IS LIT.
OUR INGREDIENTS
The materials we work with form the foundation of every piece we create. Each ingredient is selected with careful attention to performance, safety, and environmental impact. Our fragrances are vegan and composed using high-quality, responsibly sourced materials that are predominantly natural.
Every formulation is developed with longevity and balance in mind – considering how each component carries scent, burns, and exists beyond its final use. This approach guides our decisions more than trend, speed, or scale.
Wax
Our candles are made using a plant-derived coconut wax blend, chosen for its even burn and ability to carry fragrance with clarity and balance.
Coconut wax offers excellent scent throw, allowing scent to diffuse gradually throughout a space while extending the candle’s burn time. Compared with traditional paraffin waxes, it produces minimal soot and a cleaner burn overall.
The wax is vegan, biodegradable, non-toxic, and free from paraffin, palm, soy, and GMO ingredients.
Fragrance Oils
Scent sits at the centre of every piece we create. Our candles are formulated using fine fragrance oils selected for their high quality and safety standards.
All fragrance oils used are IFRA-compliant and are phthalate-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.
While these oils allow us to create refined scent profiles, they remain among the only non-natural components in our current formulations.
As the brand evolves, we will continue to explore essential oil alternatives for future collections.
Wicks
We use braided cotton wicks with thin paper filaments, designed specifically for natural wax formulations.
The wick structure is flat and coreless, containing no metal or lead supports. This design helps maintain a stable, consistent flame while minimising smoke, soot, and carbon buildup.
As the candle burns, the wick gently curls to self-trim, supporting an even burn from the first lighting through to the final moment of the candle.
Gold Leaf
Many of our pieces are finished with genuine 23-karat gold leaf, applied by hand to honour the marks and stories each form represents.
Made in Italy, the pure gold does not tarnish, allowing the finish to remain as enduring as the object itself.
MADE SLOWLY, WITH INTENTION.
SMALL BATCH PRODUCTION
Our candles are intentionally produced in small batches, allowing each piece to be made with close attention to detail. Working at this scale allows us to monitor every stage of the process – from pouring to curing to finishing – ensuring each candle meets our standards for quality and consistency.
Producing in smaller quantities also helps minimise material waste and overproduction, allowing the house to remain responsive and intentional.
Precision over speed remains central – not as a limitation but as a deliberate choice. One that protects the integrity of each piece, the craft behind it, and the meaning each piece is intended to hold.
PACKAGING WITH PURPOSE
We prioritise recyclable, reusable, and paper-based materials that reduce unnecessary plastic while maintaining the sense of care and craftsmanship that defines the brand.
Products are presented in rigid kraft boxes, chosen for their durability and recyclability. Orders are shipped in kraft paper mailer bags, selected for the same reasons.
For protection, we use honeycomb paper wrap, a paper-based alternative to plastic bubble wrap that provides strong cushioning while significantly reducing plastic waste.
PRINTED MATERIALS
Printed materials are made from FSC-certified paper, sourced from responsibly managed forests and designed to be recycled, reused, or kept as a lasting keepsake.
Packaging details are kept simple. Jute twine replaces synthetic ribbons, and wax seals are used in place of adhesive stickers, reducing additional plastic while preserving the tactile experience of opening each package.
Through considered materials and minimal design, we aim to reduce unnecessary waste while delivering a refined unboxing experience.
